THE PHILANTHROPIC COMMITTEE has arranged a special Afternoon Tea in White.
This event is inspired to some extent by an old Danish tradition where folk would gather in woods, gardens and parks on the first Saturday of June, when the white hawthorn (Hvidtjørn) is blossoming, for a ‘Hvid picnic’ and men, women and children would take part in their best white clothes.
There is also a newer tradition, the ‘Dîner en Blanc’ which started in Paris in 1988.It has become a worldwide Spring event. People gather in a public space and set up a temporary chic dining area in an iconic city location. Diners bring their own food, tables, chairs and tablecloths, and are all dressed in white.
We will gather in Birgitte’s beautiful home, dressed in white and enjoy afternoon tea with delicious cakes, also white of course. The best outfit – by popular vote – will be rewarded with a prize.
